A firefighter in the engine bay, ambulance behind one shoulder and the engine behind the other, holding up the watch that does every shift with him: a Hamilton Khaki on an olive strap. His whole submission was one line, always rocking my Hamilton on shift, and the wrist shot in front of the apparatus says the rest of it for him.

An Incident Commander with the US Forest Service, Fire Prevention and Investigations, photographed between radio calls on a wildland fire in Northern California. His terrain report: steep and deep around here, but we got it. The notebook and the two radios are the command post. On the wrist is a Hamilton Khaki Field Expedition 37, and this fire is its first, the maiden assignment for what he already calls the Hammy.

A lieutenant with the Puerto Rico Police Department and director of the Metro Bomb Squad, photographed across three separate calls this past January, each one a hand grenade found in a residential neighborhood. On his wrist is a Hamilton Khaki Field King, an automatic field watch on straps from Sangin Instruments and a custom leather band. The Khaki Field is Hamilton's direct descendant of the watches it made for American soldiers through the twentieth century, legible and unfussy by design. Steady hands and a clear dial, in a job where both matter more than most.
