Standing Orders

Rules of Engagement

The ground rules for this community, here on the site and on @department_of_watches.

Last updated: July 11, 2026

Department of Watches is a one-person operation. I run the site and the Instagram account, I read every comment and every message, and I moderate all of it myself. These are the rules I hold this space to.

What this place is

Every photo featured here belongs to a real person who trusted me with their watch and their story. The point has never been the watch alone. It is the person wearing it and the miles it has been through. When someone shares that, they are a guest here, and guests get treated with respect.

The rules

  • Respect the person in the post. Talk about watches all day. Disagree about specs, brands, and taste. But comments that tear down a submitter, their gear, or their service have no place here.
  • Have an issue with a picture? Send me a direct message. If something about a post bothers you, or you believe something in it is wrong, DM @department_of_watches or email support@departmentofwatches.com. I read everything and I will hear you out.
  • Negative comments get removed. Disrespectful, mocking, or hostile responses on a post will be deleted without debate. There are plenty of places online for that. This is not one of them.
  • Repeat offenders get blocked. No warnings owed, no appeals process. This is a small community and I would rather keep it small and decent than large and ugly.

For submitters

Nothing you send is posted without your permission, and your Instagram handle is never published. If you ever want a post edited or taken down, send me a DM and it is done, no questions asked. See the privacy policy for how your information is handled.

The short version

Honor the people, enjoy the watches, and bring problems to me directly. That covers just about everything.
