Islander watch company

A firefighter and paramedic in north central Massachusetts, photographed toward the end of a six alarm fire on a hot day in July. His company was first due with heavy fire showing on arrival, and for a stretch of it he had command of the whole scene, the first fire he had ever run as the one making the calls, until he passed command off. Behind the wrist: crews sat down in rehab with their bottles off, the orange cooler out on the grass, hooks laid down, and a house that is not a house anymore. The Islander was on his wrist for all of it.
