When Garmin revived the Epix name in January 2022, it was the company betting its flagship multisport formula on a bright screen: a 1.3 inch AMOLED display with the full sensor and mapping stack behind it. The spec answered the obvious worry. Up to 16 days of battery in smartwatch mode and up to 42 hours in GPS, so the vivid display did not come at the cost of endurance. Sapphire editions add multiband GNSS for position accuracy in cities and under cover, plus 32GB of storage with preloaded maps.
It settled a question Garmin's own hardware had raised for years: whether you could have the screen and the stamina in one watch.
