Seiko 5 Sports GMT SSK059
A career Army Aviation soldier. He was working TDY with U.S. Army Japan in September 2025 when the Secretary of the Army and his party visited Tokyo. He helped coordinate their personnel and aircraft logistical requirements on arrival and departure, and came away with a coin from the SECARMY. One of the coolest coins in his career so far. "The Seiko GMT was a great travel buddy during my TDY there. At all times I was aware of my friends and family time zone." A Seiko 5 Sports GMT SSK059. In his words, a Japanese GMT marvel, during a TDY in Japan. What is the best coin you have ever been handed? If you have a wrist shot from somewhere that matters, submit at the link in bio. Seiko 5 Sports GMT SSK059
For decades an automatic GMT was a luxury purchase. Seiko broke that rule when it put a true mechanical GMT into the 5 Sports line, and in late 2023 the formula moved from the dive-style case into a compact 39.4mm field watch format with the SSK023 and SSK025. The SSK059 took that field GMT, gave it a grained white dial with an orange 24-hour hand, and released it worldwide after the earlier versions had collectors hunting Japan-market channels.
Inside is Seiko's automatic Caliber 4R34, beating at 21,600 vibrations per hour with roughly 41 hours of power reserve, hacking seconds, and hand winding, tracking a second time zone against the 24-hour scale.
A Japanese-built GMT, worn in Japan, keeping one hand pointed home. The watch did exactly the job it was designed for, and it did it in its own back yard.
