Casio G-Shock DW-6900
The DW-6900 arrived in 1995 and became the most recognizable three-eye in the G-Shock catalogue: the trio of sub-dials over the digits, the fat shock-absorbing bezel, the EL backlight behind everything. It has been issued, gifted, customized and collaborated on more than almost any digital watch ever made, and the reason is the same reason it is on this wrist in Jordan. It costs so little and survives so much that bringing anything else downrange requires a justification. The 6900 requires none.
There is also a quiet truth about deployed timekeeping in this photo. Air defense runs on shifts, and shifts run on the wrist. The watch that gets a soldier to post on time, every time, through heat and dust and the thousand identical days of a rotation, is doing more consequential work than most complications ever will. Paradise is a strong word for it. The watch clocks in anyway.
