Suunto Core Military Suunto started in Finland in 1936 making liquid-filled compasses, and the Core is that heritage compressed into a wrist instrument: altimeter, barometer and compass in one sensor suite, with a storm alarm that fires when pressure drops fast enough to mean weather is coming. The All Black military edition stripped the visual noise and became a quiet standard on deployed wrists through the 2010s. The submitter's security point deserves unpacking, because it aged into prophecy. A Core senses and displays. It transmits nothing, logs nothing off the wrist, and syncs with nothing. A GPS fitness watch is a broadcast device with a workout app, and in 2018 the Strava heat map demonstrated the difference at global scale, tracing the outlines of undisclosed installations from aggregated jogging routes. The watch that cannot leak your position is not a lesser gadget. In some jobs it is the specification.
