He has been here before, on a Tudor. This time it is a Doxa Sub 1200 Professional, and the reason he bought it matters more than the watch does. He picked it up in August 2025, after treatment for throat cancer. He had owned a Doxa Sub Professional years earlier and sold it. This one came new in the box, and in his words that seemed fitting. Doxa Sub 1200T Professional
The orange dial is the whole story. In 1967 Doxa tested dial colors underwater and concluded orange stayed readable deepest, then built its Sub line around that finding while everyone else stayed black. Professional is not a marketing word here; it is the name Doxa gave the orange dial variant.
The bezel carries the US Navy no decompression limits engraved right on it, so a diver could read depth against time without a separate table.
Doxa subs were sold in dive shops, not jewelry stores, and Clive Cussler put one on Dirk Pitt's wrist in forty novels. Few tool watches have a resume that honest.
